About Me

I am a musician, ethnomusicologist, teacher, writer, and mother of two living in Bedford, Virginia. I play the qanun (a 78-stringed zither, hence the name of this site), fiddle, piano, and several other instruments (banjo, guitar, `ud, uke, Arabic percussion).

I teach music classes for all grade levels at the World Community Education Center, a Montessori school in Bedford County, Virginia. I am also the director of Itraab, an Arabic music ensemble that is a project of the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech.

My other professional activities include consulting and grantwriting for non-profit organizations and arts organizations.

I hope you enjoy my site!
